He says: This wine irritates me. We bought two bottles at $45 each, and in hindsight, we got influenced by a fancy new tasting room, and an expensive bottle with a trendy label. The bouquet shows promise, but on the palate, it’s an oaky, tannic mess with dead, thin fruit, belittling the elegance of what a Pinot Noir is supposed to be. It is so far off being close to varietally correct that I’d be hard pressed to spend $15 on this, and thus the low rating. I heard that the winery is pulling up all their Pinot Noir vines, so perhaps they’ve realized the mediocrity of this variety on their vineyard site. Oh, and there go our media invites.

She says: When it comes to Pinot Noir I generally have very expensive taste, even among New World examples. This did not hold true when it came to the Le Vieux Pin Belle with it’s $45 price tag. The palate of dried black cherry, strong oak & tannins left us wondering if we had poured the right bottle. This is one confused Pinot Noir with, I am guessing, many disappointed consumers!
