He says: The most expensive bottle in our flight of Aglianico also turned out to be the most disappointing. It was also the oldest, and time has not been kind. The fruit was still present on the palate, but otherwise the wine smelled and tasted like a Chilliwack Farmer’s Fair – dung, barnyard, & earth. These aromas/flavors can be pleasant when in balance, but once it takes over, it can become overpowering and tiring. If you have some of this in your cellar, drink it now. It’s fading fast.

She says: This was my least favorite of the three Aglianicos and I usually have such expensive taste! It was hard to get past the strong earth, leather and barnyard which instead of adding complexity, overwhelmed what was left of the fruit. This wine is not for the faint hearted. It is a slippery slope for this wine from here.

Tasting note

Looks like: Clear, med+ ruby, good concentration
Smells like: Clean, med intensity, developing, massive barnyard, leather, black fruit, earth
Tastes like: Dry, med+ acid, med body, med intensity, med tannins, med alcohol, sweet/ripe black fruit, sweet mid-palate, earth, barnyard, very tart finish, med+ length
Summary: Average, Ready to drink/Past its best
