We tasted with our guest reviewer, PunkDrunk.

PunkDrunk says: This is getting worse with each sip.

He says: As the great Public Enemy famously said, “Don’t believe the hype”. Haywire has a lot of PR buzz going, and the oh-so-stylish self-deprecating name in the same vein as the well-reputed Laughing Stock Vineyards. However, the hype isn’t deserved as of yet and we’ll watch with interest to see how their offerings evolve. This year’s Pinot Gris had a promising nose but really disappointed on the palate. Dilute, and watery, with a very tart, short finish. Twenty-five dollars a bottle (or $9 more than the Arrowleaf, and $5 more than the Laughing Stock)? No thanks.

She says: For me the most expensive wine turned out to be the most disappointing. The lovely intense floral and stone fruit nose did not carry through on the palate.  It was a little dilute with a tart citrus finish that impacted both the intensity and overall balance of the wine. That said, this was their first vintage so it will be interesting to watch how they evolve over the next few years.

Tasting note

Looks like: Clear, pale lemon, almost water white
Smells like: Clean, med+ intensity, youthful, floral, apple, stone fruit, peach
Tastes like: Dry, med acid, med- body, med- intensity, med alcohol, tart peach, apple, floral, tart citrus finish, med length
