We tasted with our guest reviewer, Swedish Touch.

Swedish Touch says: I quite like it, but it’s lacking a bit of edge – a bit lame. The name is the best of all of them.

She says: This wine was the least intense of the 4 wines and therefore paled a little in comparison beside its bigger bodied, more intense neighbours. Often you can find an ‘elegance’ in such medium bodied wines however this was somehow more rustic than elegant. Black sweet fruit with vanilla and oak and an interesting dustiness on the nose. Enjoyable but for the most part forgettable. More of a teddy bear than a black bear.

He says: I enjoyed this wine, even though nothing really stood out about it other than being entirely un-offensive. I found the nose intriguing with it’s interplay between fruit and an odd, but welcome, note of caramel or sweet confectionary. On the palate, it was restrained and straight-forward, yet finished long & spicy. I’d love to try this in a few years to see what secondary characteristics develop.

Tasting note

Looks like: Clear, med ruby, very concentrated to rim
Smells like: Clean, med- intensity, youthful, blueberry, raspberry, dusty, caramel, sweet confectionary
Tastes like: Dry, med acidity, med body, med- intensity, med tannin, black fruit, tobacco leaf, oak/vanilla, sweet spicy finish, med alcohol, med+ finish
Summary: Good, Ready to drink but can develop further.

These people drank this to early. I had the 2007 The Bear a few days ago (following a 2007 Madcap red which was great) and the Bear was fantastic. I wish I had a case!
