He says: Of the three reds we tried on this night, this was my favorite. So many wines made from the Shiraz/Syrah grape tend to be behemoth blockbusters that dry your gums out and have loads of sweet fruit (see Australia for the guiltiest examples). The Northern Rhône has always been the stylistic champion of restrained Syrah (with Washington State the new up-and-comer), and this bottle is a clear example of the type. The wine is big, flavorful and mouth-filling without being obnoxious. It shows restraint and elegance without coming off as simple or linear. Thoroughly enjoyable, and a wine I will definitely buy again.

She says: The all-round favourite red of the tasting. It had a lovely balance of fruit, pepper, earth and meatiness that I love in Old World Syrah’s. Elegant & complex but with some lovely, fine tannins to give it structure and a little ‘oomph’. Rhone Valley reds are something to get excited about, especially the 2007 vintage.
