He says: This is a very rustic wine, with a bit of funk on the nose to keep you guessing. I swore it was Spanish, and was surprised to find it was a Chinon after the blind reveal. Definitely the Cabernet Franc backbone that one expects, although it was missing the floral elegance that most examples display. Lots of earth and barnyard to keep the funky drinkers happy.

She says: The aromas on this wine were almost overwhelming to start. Put simply, it smelled strongly of manure. Interestingly, it only had a hint of barnyard on the palate which made it much easier to drink than to smell. It had more body and tannin that the Friuli which I am guessing is due to a combination of both climate and winemaking techniques. A good comparison of how different two wines from the same grape variety can be.

Tasting note

Looks like: Clear, med+ ruby with a thin, bright ruby rim
Smells like: Clean, med+ intensity, developing, baked ripe black fruit, earth, brett/funk, spice, toast
Tastes like: Dry, med+ acidity, med+ body, med+ intensity, med dusty tannin, earth, barnyard, ripe black fruit, med+ alcohol, med finish
Summary: Good, Ready to drink but can keep
